I fucked up my relationship with the best girlfriend ever. I was so afraid of being hurt. I can’t believe all the hurt I’ve put her though because of my fear. I love her so much. I just want to be part of her life. Danielle, I’m starving to be a part of your life again.

Also, sorry for not updating for the longest time. I could make up excuses, but there are none. In truth, I’m not sure what to do with this blog anymore. I’m trying to re-brand myself as a photographer and I’m about to enter into graduate school. Everything is up in the air. If you have any ideas on what I should do with this blog, and it’s incredibly popular and highly ranked posts like Depression and Randomly Crying, please let me know in the comments. |

I have too many projects, too many readings, and too much photography to do. I rarely have time for anything personal. I’m ok with all of this most of the time, but sometimes I get a little stressed or frustrated.
At a team meeting just last night we took two screaming breaks, back to back. We counted off to three and just screamed our heads off. We didn’t care who heard us or what they might say. We just screamed. We all felt much, much better afterward. Later, I went home and continued my screaming for just a bit.
I’m not saying that everything isn’t going well, because it is. I’m just saying that things get crazy sometimes, and everyone gets frustrated. Screaming helps.

Originally published at The Glass People. You can comment here or there. For some odd reason I thought it would be cool to put a box on my head and take a photograph. It then became extremely addicting. Enough so that I’ve actually decided to turn this concept into a photo series. You can view the series on my flickr page. This will be an ongoing series in which I will photograph myself, as well as other models, in normal situations with boxes on our heads. I may even get a big group of people for a couple of shots. That would require lots of boxes, but I think it would be fun. What do you think?
Anyway, as is the usual style, here are the outtakes. These are from one particular sitting, the last image was chosen for my Picture A Day, which you should be following.

Originally published at The Glass People. You can comment here or there. Here are some outtakes from a shot for a flickr group (Mission24) on the topic “forbidden”. I decided to go with a forbidden treasure root. The real reason here is that I have really wanted to try using an object to block a flash that would output directly on me while being hidden from the camera. I was hoping to achieve the effect of glowing treasure. These images are basically straight from the camera with the only editing being some light adjustments. I could have done added more ‘pirate’ features to the photograph in photoshop, but I decided to keep them as is. Enjoy.

Originally published at The Glass People. You can comment here or there. Yesterday I was set on doing some ‘fashion’ photography with a sunset background. I had no model except for good ole reliable me. So, it was set to be a self portrait sunset fashion photo shoot.
About an hour and 15 minutes before sunset I went out to scout a location. It took a little while, but I eventually found a nice little road with some (wheat?) fields and some nice background. The sun was beginging to set as I got my equipment in place. Below are some setup shots and outtakes from the shoot.

Originally published at The Glass People. You can comment here or there. Recently I went to the Kansas City Zoo. I took quite a few pictures. It was a very bright and super super hot day. I think this caused my focus (manaul, due to the cages) to be a bit off. This really upset me later once I got home. More recently than that I did some macro photography for a Mission24 mission. I hope you enjoy.

|
Originally published at The Glass People. You can comment here or there. Just recently I decided to shoot loneliness for an entire week. I wanted to shoot many different kinds of loneliness. I wanted to get creative, have some fun, and bring a needed spark back into my photography. I’ve certainly been feeling lonely here in KC, MO. Things are going decently, I’m just lacking a real connection to anyone. And thusly I present to you, my photographic journey through loneliness.

Originally published at The Glass People. You can comment here or there. Lately I’ve felt a creative lull. I’ve been working on my Picture A Day project now for over 6 months. I have yet to miss one single day. I feel proud of that fact, but I also feel like I’m in a bit of a rut. When I first started this project I saw my photography skills jump quite often. Now, not so much. I’m still learning new things, it just isn’t happening as fast.
This my be in part due to the fact that I’m stuck in a dorm room (with a roommate) for the summer. I wasn’t able to bring all of my equipment (which isn’t much, but helped) and I don’t have much room with which to work. There is also the fact that the people surrounding me are not the creative or artistic types. They are beer drinking sports guys, you know guys guys. Which is cool and all, I know personally that the dose of masculinity has been good for me. The problem is that I can’t find much inspiration around me in the dorm. I would love to get out into Kansas City and explore the arts, but I can’t find anyone who is willing to do this with me. Meeting people that I really get along with has been a constant problem in my life. I don’t think I’m social enough to meet people in a ‘cold’ environment. In some circumstances I’m fine, but most I’m just terrible. So for now, I continue on clinging to that last little bit of creativity I have for the moment, but I’m lacking overall vision. In many many ways I feel like I’m lacking vision. So tonight, in the midst of all my goings on, as well as some strange looks, outburst, and laughter, I shoot this photograph. I hope you enjoy. I hope you feel. I hope you see.

Originally published at The Glass People. You can comment here or there. So I decided last night to do some sephia toned portraits for my Picture A Day project.
I took the images in color, converted to black and white, adjusted for contrast/brightness, and then added the sephia tone.
I really like they way these turned out. I ended up liking the second hat better because it was a lighter brown color and showed up a little easier.

As you can probably tell I enjoy taking self portraits. It’s not that I’m in love with myself (but seriously, who isn’t in love with me?), it’s just that I can really control everything. I am patient while I work out the lighting. I can always pose just the way I want. I don’t get nervous in front of the camera. I don’t have to talk myself into a pose or a shot. I know the exact look I’m trying to get. Also, I’m awesome!
Leave a comment and tell me what you think. The first picture isn’t on flickr, but the second one is, so you can comment on it either here or there.
While you’re at it, why not subscribe to my Picture A Day project and get updates automagically!

| » The Handkerchief Necktie |
|
Originally published at The Glass People. You can comment here or there. I’ve decided to start a new trend. It’s a little bit steampunk, a little bit power punk, and a lot of rock and roll.
Introducing the Handkerchief Necktie by John Wayne Hill

The Handkerchief Necktie is exactly as it sounds. Using a handkerchief as a necktie. Simply don your button down shirt, place your necktie around your neck, tie semi-tight, tuck underneath your collar, and fluff a little at the nape of the neck. This creates a sophisticated yet trendy look. All sorts of handkerchiefs can be used, but preference should be given to those with a small pattern on top of a solid color.

Alternate Look
As with many great fashion trends, there is also an alternate look for the handkerchief necktie. In place of a collared shirt trendy persons can instead use a t-shirt and jacket. This creates a lower key look. In this version the handkerchief necktie can either be puffed up around the neck to create a sort of collar, or it can be pushed down to have very little volume. This alternate look would be best suited for more casual settings or perhaps with jeans. Hats also suite this alternate look well.

|
Originally published at The Glass People. You can comment here or there. Today there was rain, lots of rain. In fact, you could easily say that there was a flood of rain today; but we won’t.
I’ve never really liked the rain. It always decides to cling to my glasses and screw with my vision. Damn you rain, I need to see. Today, it also messed up other things. I had planned what might be my only camping trip of the summer (sad, I know) for tomorrow. However, due to the flooding rains (that are set to continue tomorrow), I will not be camping. I’m terribly sad for this. I miss the great outdoors, especially considering that I’ve been sick with bronchitis for the past three weeks. I just want to go and explore, hike, enjoy nature, and shoot some photographs. What’s so hard about letting me do that nature, huh?
So, even though great Mother Nature has decided to thwart my plans to enjoy her beauty tomorrow, I did manage to enjoy a bit today. The rain was long and hard. It made me sad. And as I was looking out my window, I saw my sadness reflected. Here is that sadness captured and held in ransom until Mother Nature gives me back my camping trip.

I’ve posted my photos on Flickr [like always], but I thought I would post a couple here as well. I would like to start a transition of this blog into a photo blog. I don’t post too much text anymore. In fact, I don’t really write much anymore. I guess writing just comes and goes like the phases of the moon. So, without further ado, here are two pictures from my depression series.
